Family Vacation in Mexico during May.

Family vacation in Mexico during May is an important time in Mexico for several cultural reasons.  Read our guide below to what´s on to find out more about local celebrations if you are planning to travel in Mexico this May.

1- Cinco de Mayo

The biggest Mexican Mayday attraction is undoubtedly “Cinco de Drinko.” Contrary to popular belief, Cinco de Mayo is not Mexican Independence Day, but rather celebrates the victory from the Battle of Puebla in 1862. That doesn’t mean however, that it’s not widely celebrated internationally. Around Mexico, find street festivals, deals in local markets, and lots of tequila. For example, at each El Dorado Resort by Karisma in Riviera Maya, expect photo opps with sombreros, donkey sightings, and cold margaritas on deck!

2- Mother’s Day

Whether she’s mom, mum, or mami, there’s no greater leading lady in your life than your mother. Most importantly, celebrate family vacation in Mexico this Mother´s Day by doing something she loves. Above all else,  make he feel special with an unforgettable trip to Mexico that she will be talking about for years to come.  Whether it’ dinner reservations in Playa del Carmen´s swanky 5th Avenue, a painting class at a local studio, or simply a weekend getaway to the Riviera Maya, whichever option you choose, just make sure to show her some love.

3- Dia del Niño

Technically speaking, Children´s day is not in May. It actually lands on 31st April but rolls into the Mexican puentes of May so  it makes the list!  Resorts that cater especially to families with kids, like Generations Riviera Maya, by Karisma are offering a lot of special attractions for Easter Break and May this year.

4- Paella Festival, May 25 y 26 de mayo de 2019

This year´s festival will be held at Finca Sala Vivé in Ezequiel Montes, Querétaro.  A traditional Latin dish, paella combines yellow rice with chicken, seafood, vegetables and spices into one savory, flavorful plate. At the Paella Festival, several types of the dish are on offer, with wine pairings to match. Pre event tickets cost 500 pesos (roughly $25 USD) and include unlimited Paella and one glass of wine.
