This recent archaeological discovery, a city probably the result of a mixture between the Mayans and Olmecs, with an age of just over 2,300 years, flourished between the 8th and 10th centuries BC, and is considered the largest city on the coast of Oaxaca and of great relevance as the only vestige in the entire Pacific Ocean. Today the National Institute of Anthropology and History of Mexico is working on the north side of the city in order to discover new vestiges.
Located in an area covered by the exuberant vegetation of the forest, full of birds; the first inhabitants were mostly engaged in fishing, agriculture and the obsidian trade to produce self-consumption artifacts and grinding instruments. Our guides will explain you about the area and you will have the opportunity to see how archaeologists and anthropologists have restored and reinforced the remains of the buildings, while you learn more about the history of ancient Huatulco. If you are in good physical condition you can walk to the top of the hill where we will get to "Al Observatorio" and enjoy a spectacular 180 degree view of the ocean and the delta of the Copalita River. Exotic birds of the region will be observed in the lagoon. Later, while walking along the paved roads, you will have the opportunity to visit the Zone Museum, inside the park, which preserves important archaeological pieces and where there is a rest area.
The expert guide in Biology takes you through trails of different varieties of trees, and flora composed of endemic birds of the place and explains this rich ecosystem; this way you will get the idea of what this beautiful port can offer its visitors.
